"90 pounds," said my doctor. She avoided my eyes.

I stepped off the scale. The cold tile floor burned my feet. I hurried to put on my socks and wrapped myself in my baggy sweater. I was always so cold. Goosebumps marked my arms like a permanent tattoo.

My doctor walked over to me, her eyes still focused on her clipboard. I leaned forward to see what she was reading, but the smudgy blue ink was illegible.

"So we're going to have to admit you," she said.

I froze. "What?"

"You haven't been successful as an outpatient. You're not gaining fast e

Cheap Old Men The long line of customers tapped their feet and sighed impatiently. It was the first day of my first job as a cashier at Canadian Tire. Clad in my navy pants and baggy red vest, I scanned merchandise, handed out change and hastily bagged purchases. The nervous shaking of my hands had eased now that the job became repetitive.

"Maybe this isn't so bad," I thought. I remembered the yellow running shoes I planned to buy with my first pay cheque and smiled.

An elderly man approached my cash and heaved a bunch of tools onto the counter. I grabbed my scan gun and rang them up.

"Your total is $114.36."
